This week, the Lunar New Year graced our calendars and social media was abuzz with festivities.
As it’s customary to wear new clothes on New Year’s Day, we at Digimind steered away from the temptation of pineapple tarts to see which fashion brands made it to the top of New Year #OOTD (Outfit of the Day) posts on social media:
Judging by the key concepts that turned up on the first and second days of Lunar New Year (8 – 9 February), many were quick to tag the style of their outfits, with “casual” being one of the more popular ones. Other brands like Mango and Timberland also trended.
So, which fashion brands dominated Lunar New Year on social media?
H&M, Zara and ASOS rule on social media
Unsurprisingly, #OOTD was the top trending hashtag related to Lunar New Year fashion, followed by international clothing giants H&M, Zara, and ASOS.
Out of all the brands monitored, H&M turned out to be the most featured on users’ social media profiles, followed by Zara, ASOS, Zalora, and Uniqlo.

Instagrammers and fashionistas cash in on Lunar New Year
Interestingly, most, if not all of these posts contained not just the brand’s hashtags, but popular hashtags related to fashion and Instagram in general, including #streetstyle, #igsg and #sgfashion – possibly to gain more likes and followers.
And while the Lunar New Year long weekend may have come and gone, some people are still looking to cash in on the holiday sales… or the chance for a brand new look!
